Ira Lewis, born Ira Lewis Metsky on August 27, 1932, in Newark, New Jersey, was an American actor, writer, and playwright who worked in theater and film across several decades. He died on April 4, 2015, in Edison, New Jersey, following complications from heart surgery. At the time of his death, Lewis was a resident of Westfield, New Jersey.
Lewis trained as an actor and made his Broadway debut in Arthur Miller's Incident at Vichy. His Broadway work also included Chinese Coffee. In 1965, he toured with a production of Long Day's Journey Into Night.
As a playwright, Lewis is best known for his one-act play Chinese Coffee, which opened at the Circle in the Square Theatre in 1992 with Al Pacino in the cast. The play later served as the basis for a film adaptation released in 2000, again starring Pacino alongside Jerry Orbach. Lewis wrote the screenplay for the film, which Pacino directed.
