About

Inez Plummer (born between 1884 and 1887 in Syracuse, New York; died October 1964) was an American stage actress whose career spanned from 1906 to 1929. She served as a leading lady of the Burbank, California stock company during the second decade of the twentieth century and later became the leading woman of the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

Plummer came from a theatrical household despite her father's reservations about the profession. He managed a theater for thirty-five years yet disapproved of his daughter pursuing acting. Plummer rehearsed her first role in his theater with a stock company without his knowledge, and when he discovered what she had done, he was shocked but ultimately permitted her to continue. Her earliest stage appearance came at the age of two, though she did not begin her professional career until August 29, 1906, when she performed in The Price of Money.

Through the mid-1900s and into the 1910s, Plummer built her reputation in California. In the fall of 1916 she starred in The Fortune Hunter at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles, and in November of that same year she appeared at the Alhambra Theater in a production of The High Cost of Living. From 1920 to 1921, she and Charles Trowbridge starred together in The Broken Wing, a play written by Paul Dickey.

Plummer's Broadway credits included The Dust Heap, Broken Wings, The Last Laugh, and Too Many Cooks, among other productions. Her final show was The Octoroon, in which she played the character Zoe, closing out a professional stage career that had lasted from 1906 to March 1929.
