Ida Anderson was an actress from Culpeper, Virginia, who worked across stage and screen during the early decades of the twentieth century. She died on January 29, 1942, at the age of 54, and was buried at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Maspeth, Queens.
Anderson built her stage career through several prominent African American theatrical organizations. She was a member of the Lafayette Players and also performed with the Anita Bush stock company, the Charles Gilpin Players, and the Quality Amusement Company. Her work extended to leading her own company, the Ida Anderson Players, with which Alfred Chester performed.
Her Broadway career spanned 1929 to 1931, during which she appeared in the musical Pansy and the play Paid Companions. In her personal life, Anderson married Charles H. Anderson, a teacher, though the two later separated.
Anderson also established a presence in film. Her screen credits include Secret Sorrow, a 1921 REOL Productions film, and A Son of Satan, released in 1924 under the working title Ghost of Tolston's Manor. She additionally appeared in Gayety, a 1929 Vitaphone short.
