About
Hugh Dillman McGaughy (February 8, 1885 – July 7, 1956) was an American actor who worked in both Broadway theater and silent film. His stage career spanned from 1913 to 1919, during which he appeared in a range of productions including the play The Unknown Woman, the musical Biff! Bang!, Getting Married, Our Mrs. McChesney, and The Fortune Teller, among others.
During World War I, Dillman served as a Navy recruiter. In 1919, he married actress Marjorie Rambeau; the couple divorced in 1923. Following his years in performance, Dillman transitioned into real estate, establishing himself in Palm Beach, Florida. He acted as the sales agent for the transaction in which Mrs. Dodge purchased Playa Rienta, the largest house in Palm Beach, designed by architect Addison Mizner. He was also among the founding members of the Society of the Four Arts.
In 1926, Dillman married Anna Thompson Dodge, heiress to the Dodge Automobile fortune and nineteen years his senior. They divorced in 1947.
