Leonard Hubert S. Harben was born on 12 July 1878 and died on 24 August 1941. An English actor, he worked across both stage and film throughout his career. In his personal life, he was married to the actress Mary Jerrold, and the couple's son was Philip Harben, who became known as a celebrity chef.
Harben's Broadway career spanned more than two decades, from 1907 to 1928. Among his stage credits in New York were appearances in The Lancers and The Sacred Flame.
His film work was extensive, beginning in the silent era and continuing through the sound period. His screen appearances included Mr. Pim Passes By in 1921 and Every Mother's Son in 1926. Through the 1930s, Harben appeared in a substantial number of British productions, among them Tell England, Uneasy Virtue, and Fires of Fate, all released in 1931, followed by Timbuctoo and The House of Trent in 1933. He appeared in Lilies of the Field and City of Beautiful Nonsense in 1934 and 1935 respectively, as well as Scrooge and Fighting Stock, both from 1935. His later film credits included Whom the Gods Love, Living Dangerously, and Dishonour Bright in 1936, then Sunset in Vienna, For Valour, and Victoria the Great in 1937. He appeared in A Royal Divorce in 1938, and his final screen role came in The Man at the Gate in 1941, the year of his death.
