About
Howard Jacob Goorney (11 May 1921 – 29 March 2007) was a British actor and author whose career spanned stage, television, and film. Among his most recognized television appearances was a role in Only Fools and Horses.
Goorney was a founding member of Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop, a company with which he maintained a long association. He later documented that history in The Theatre Workshop Story, published by Methuen, a book that chronicled the company's formative period and its relocation to the Theatre Royal Stratford East.
His stage work extended to the National Theatre, where he appeared in Bill Bryden's productions of The Mysteries and Lark Rise to Candleford during the 1970s and 1980s.
Goorney also performed on Broadway, appearing in 1963 in The School for Scandal.
