About
Hoon Lee, born Tong Hoon Lee on July 18, 1973, in Plymouth, Massachusetts, is an American actor whose career spans Broadway, television, film, and voice acting. He earned a degree in English literature and environmental studies from Harvard University in 1994 before pursuing a professional acting career.
Lee's Broadway work spans from 2001 to 2015 and includes productions such as Urinetown, Flower Drum Song, Pacific Overtures, and The King and I. His stage career also brought him recognition beyond Broadway: in 2008, he received a Theatre World Award for Distinguished Performance for his work in Yellow Face. He additionally appeared in a musical adaptation of Hamlet, taking on the role of Rosencrantz.
On September 29, 2015, Lee joined the cast of Lincoln Center's Tony-winning revival of The King and I, succeeding Jose Llana in the role of the King of Siam. The casting had been announced on June 18, 2015, and Lee remained in the role through April 2016.
In television, Lee made his first appearance in 2003 with a guest role as Dr. Mao on Sex and the City. He went on to appear in episodes of Law and Order, Fringe, Royal Pains, White Collar, and NCIS: New Orleans, among other series. In March 2012, he was cast in the starring role of Job, a drag queen and elite computer hacker, in the Cinemax original series Banshee. His film credits include Saving Face, We Own the Night, Premium Rush, and The Oranges.
Lee has also worked extensively in voice acting, providing the voice of Hamato Yoshi and Splinter in the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, Shredder in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the White Rabbit in Devil May Cry.
Lee married Sekiya Lavone Billman in October 2008. The two met in 2001 while performing together in a production of Making Tracks at a benefit held in Taipei, Taiwan, for Second Generation, an Asian-American theater company based in Manhattan. His parents are Jung Ja Lee and Moon Soo Lee, and his brother is Tony Lee, a volleyball coach at MIT.
