Henry Oscar, born Henry Wale on 14 July 1891, was an English stage and film actor who died on 28 December 1969. He adopted the professional name Henry Oscar and began his acting career in 1911 after training under Elsie Fogerty at the Central School of Speech and Drama, which was at that time located in the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Oscar built a career that spanned both stage and screen across several decades. On Broadway, he appeared in 1938 in Waltz in Goose Step. His stage work also included productions in Britain, among them Flowers of the Forest by John Van Druten in 1934, Thank You, Mr. Pepys! by W.P. Lipscomb in 1937, The Shop at Sly Corner by Edward Percy in 1945, The Assassin by Irwin Shaw in 1948, and The Moonraker by Arthur Watkyn in 1952.
His film career encompassed a wide range of productions over three decades. Early screen appearances included The Man Who Knew Too Much in 1934 and Fire Over England in 1937, followed by The Four Feathers in 1939 and Hatter's Castle in 1942. He continued working steadily through the following years, appearing in Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1948, Beau Brummell in 1954, The Little Hut in 1957, Beyond This Place in 1959, and Oscar Wilde in 1960. Among his later film credits were Lawrence of Arabia in 1962, The Long Ships in 1963, and Murder Ahoy! in 1964.
