About
Evelyn Henry Mollison, born on 21 February 1905 and died on 19 July 1985, was a British actor who worked in theatre and film. He was the brother of fellow actor Clifford Mollison.
Mollison's stage career included a Broadway appearance in 1934, when he performed in the play Richard of Bordeaux. His work in theatre extended beyond professional productions: during World War II, after his ship was captured and he was taken prisoner by the Germans, he spent five years in a POW camp, during which time he organized 56 shows for fellow prisoners. The war had a lasting effect on his professional life, and he never fully resumed his acting career after his release.
His film work spanned several decades, beginning in the late silent and early sound era. Among his screen appearances were Balaclava (1928), Knowing Men (1930), Third Time Lucky (1931), and The Face at the Window (1932). Through the mid-1930s he appeared in a substantial number of productions, including Royal Cavalcade (1935), Drake of England (1935), The Great Impersonation (1935), The Lone Wolf Returns (1935), Devil's Squadron (1936), and They Met in a Taxi (1936). His later film credits included Whisky Galore! (1949), The Man in the White Suit (1951), and Front Page Story (1954).
Mollison was married twice to actresses. His first marriage, to Jane Welsh, lasted from 1932 to 1934. He subsequently married Lina Basquette in 1937, and the two divorced in 1947.
