About
Henry Byalikov is an Australian dancer and Broadway performer whose career spans competitive dance, television, and stage productions in both Australia and the United States. He began dancing at age nine and by eleven had claimed the title of Australian Juvenile Graded Latin Champion. He went on to earn additional competitive honors, including Undefeated State Adult Latin and Ballroom Champion and South Pacific Champion.
Byalikov made his first television appearance at eighteen on the Australian program Strictly Dancing. At twenty-two, he competed on So You Think You Can Dance Australia, finishing among the top four male contestants in the country. He subsequently appeared on the eighth season of the Australian version of Dancing with the Stars as a professional dancer, partnered with television presenter Toni Pearen. His competitive success in Australia led to an invitation to represent the country in the couples category of NBC's Superstars of Dance, where he and his partner earned a bronze medal for Australia.
In 2010, Byalikov appeared on the American version of So You Think You Can Dance as a guest partner, drawing praise from judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mia Michaels, and Adam Shankman. The following year, choreographer Graeme Murphy selected him to perform as a principal dancer in the contemporary ballet company Graeme Murphy's Suite Synergy 2011. He also served as a featured dancer on Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby and as a rehearsal dance partner to the film's lead actress. At the close of 2011, he performed at The Trocadero Dance Palace for the Sydney Festival in January 2012 and appeared in the opening ceremony of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, which aired on Channel Nine.
Beginning in 2012, Byalikov joined the Dance Troupe on the American version of Dancing with the Stars. After four seasons as a troupe member, he was elevated to competing professional dancer for the show's eighteenth season, partnered with long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad. The pair were the first couple eliminated that season. He returned to the Dance Troupe for the nineteenth and twentieth seasons of the program.
In 2014 and 2015, Byalikov performed in the dance musical Sway: A Dance Trilogy. Also in 2015, he appeared in the dance musical In Your Arms from September through October, followed by the dance musical Forever Tango in November. His Broadway credits, accumulated between 2009 and 2019, include Burn the Floor, My Fair Ladies, Dirty Dancing, and The Bodyguard. He performed in the stage production of Dirty Dancing in 2016 and 2017 and subsequently joined the United States tour of The Bodyguard.
