About
Helene Millard (September 30, 1905 – September 20, 1974) was an American actress whose career spanned stage, film, and television across several decades. Born in the early twentieth century, she died in Laguna Hills, California, at the age of 68.
Millard's introduction to performing came during her seventh-grade years in Los Angeles, where she began acting on stage. Her early professional work took her through several regional theater companies. In July 1926, she departed the Pasadena Players for Denver, where she had secured a one-year contract with the Wilkes Stock Company. Between 1928 and 1929, she spent six months performing with the Henry Duffy Players across the northwestern United States, after which she returned to Los Angeles to co-star in The Hottentot.
Her Broadway career brought her to New York in 1934, when she appeared in the play A Roman Servant, in which she portrayed the character Sybil Weyman.
Millard entered films in 1929 with a featured role in The Thirteenth Chair. Throughout the 1930s she accumulated credits in 18 films, working primarily in supporting and featured capacities, though the size of her roles declined toward the end of that decade. She continued in the industry into the early 1940s, completing six films before departing from motion pictures in 1942. A brief return to film work occurred between 1952 and 1953, during which she made four additional appearances. Her final screen credit was a small role in Remains to Be Seen (1953), a film starring June Allyson and Van Johnson.
During the early 1950s, Millard also worked in television, appearing in several programs before retiring permanently from performing in 1954 following an appearance on Topper.
