About
Helen Leslie, born Helen Riesing on May 20, 1897, in Indianapolis, Indiana, was an American actress who worked in both silent film and on Broadway. Her parents were William Riesling and Frederika Childs. She was also known at various points as Gracia Jaccard.
Leslie began her screen career in the mid-1910s, appearing in a substantial number of silent films. While still a teenager, she was working as an actress at Universal Studios. Her filmography from this period includes titles such as A Life at Stake (1915), From the Shadows (1915), The Toll of Youth (1915), A Thousand Dollars a Week (1916), Society's Hypocrites (1916), The Gold Band (1916), If My Country Should Call (1916), and Stepping Out (1917), among many others.
At the age of 18, Leslie married writer and director Jacques Jaccard, who was 28 at the time. Following the marriage, she stepped away from her acting career. The marriage proved unstable and eventually ended in divorce, after which Leslie withdrew from public life. By 1930, she was managing the La Granada Apartments in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles.
Leslie later returned to performing and appeared on Broadway in 1927 in the musical Funny Face.
