About

Helen Flint (June 14, 1898 – September 9, 1967) was an American actress born in Chicago, Illinois, whose career spanned Broadway, film, and modeling across several decades. Her father was attorney Alexander Flint, and her mother was Mary Eva Black. Her aunt, stage actress Dorothy Dorr, was an early influence on Flint's decision to pursue acting and later helped her secure work on Broadway.

Flint's first stage appearance came as a chorus member in the Ziegfeld Follies at the age of seventeen. Her Broadway career extended from 1921 to 1946 and encompassed more than twenty productions, among them Listening In, In Paradise, Nigger Rich (The Big Shot), London Calling, and Too Many Boats. Alongside her stage work, Flint pursued modeling, sitting for artists including James Montgomery Flagg and Arthur William Brown.

From 1931 to 1944, Flint appeared in more than twenty films, frequently cast as seedy or sexually available characters. Her screen credits included Ah, Wilderness!, Black Legion, and David O. Selznick's production of Little Lord Fauntleroy, in which she portrayed the fortune-hunting actress Minna Tipton. Her final acting appearance was in the New York comedy The Dancer in 1953.

On January 27, 1938, Flint married banker H. Spencer Auguste in Palm Beach, Florida. The marriage ended in divorce in Reno, Nevada, on January 7, 1939. In 1954, while traveling from New York to Palm Springs, Florida to purchase a new home, Flint made a stopover in the Georgetown district of Washington, D.C., and ultimately settled there permanently. She acquired four residential buildings in Georgetown, each containing four units, and by 1958 The Washington Sunday Star had described her as a "unique landlady" and "house mother" to her tenants.

Flint died on September 9, 1967, at Georgetown University Hospital after being struck by a motorist. She was sixty-nine years old.
