About

Haylie Katherine Duff, born February 19, 1985, in Houston, Texas, is an American actress, singer, and food blogger. She is the older sister of actress and singer Hilary Duff. Her mother, Susan Colleen Duff, is a film producer whose credits include co-executive producer of A Cinderella Story (2004), producer of The Perfect Man (2005), and producer of Material Girls (2006). Her father, Robert Erhard Duff, is a partner and owner in a chain of convenience stores operated with his father, John B. Duff, and remains based in Houston to oversee the family business.

Duff began ballet training at an early age while growing up in Texas, and by age eight had secured a role in the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company's production of The Nutcracker Suite. Her acting career developed from that early dance background, beginning with guest appearances on made-for-television films including True Women and on series such as The Amanda Show. She went on to make guest appearances on Chicago Hope, Boston Public, and Third Watch before becoming a recurring presence on Lizzie McGuire starting in late 2002, playing Amy Sanders. In 2004, she appeared on That's So Raven as Katina Jones and made her feature film debut as Summer Wheatly in Napoleon Dynamite, a role that earned her a Teen Choice Award. She subsequently appeared in Joan of Arcadia and American Dreams before joining the cast of 7th Heaven in 2005, where she played Sandy Jameson, best friend to Simon's girlfriend Rose.

In June 2006, Duff joined the Broadway cast of Hairspray, portraying Amber Von Tussle, and remained with the production through early October 2006. Her stage work also included a connection to Legally Blonde: The Musical, for which she hosted the reality series Legally Blonde: The Musical – The Search for Elle Woods, a show seeking a replacement lead for the production in which she had performed in the chorus. She also served as executive producer of that series.

Duff co-starred with her sister Hilary in Material Girls, on which she received a co-producer credit, with her mother and sister credited as producers. Her subsequent film and television work included Fear Island, Tug, Slightly Single in L.A., and the animated film Foodfight!, which was delayed due to distribution issues before receiving a release in 2012. She also appeared in a number of made-for-television and straight-to-DVD films, among them Nightmare, My Sexiest Year, Legacy, Backwoods, Love Takes Wing, Love Finds a Home, and My Nanny's Secret. In 2015, she appeared in the film Badge of Honor.

On the music side, Duff recorded singles for several soundtracks alongside her sister, with releases tied to In Search of Santa, The Lizzie McGuire Movie, A Cinderella Story, and Material Girls. She wrote and co-wrote songs for Hilary's first two studio albums, Metamorphosis and Hilary Duff, and contributed whistling to the track "Sparks" from Hilary's album Breathe In. Breathe Out. She provided background vocals on the track "On the Rise Again," produced by DJ Premier, for rapper Kool G Rap's album Half a Klip, and sang a duet with Seth MacFarlane as his character Stewie on "Babysitting Is a Bum Deal" from Family Guy: Live in Las Vegas. After signing with Hollywood Records, Duff planned to release a debut solo single titled "Screwed" in August 2004, but a dispute arose when Paris Hilton released her own version of the song. Duff's team ultimately did not pursue the matter further. A debut album, Walk the Walk, was scheduled for release in 2008 and included tracks such as "Holiday," "Walk the Walk," "Faded," "Crush," and "Just a Minute," but the album was never released and Duff parted ways with Hollywood Records. The song "Holiday" was later re-recorded by Hilary Duff and included on her greatest hits album Best of Hilary Duff.

In 2012, Duff launched a food blog called Real Girl's Kitchen, which was adapted into a cooking show on the Cooking Channel in 2014. She published a companion book, The Real Girl's Kitchen, in 2013. In 2017, she founded a children's fashion line called Little Moon Society.
