About
Hattie Delaro (1861 – April 18, 1941) was an American actress born in Brooklyn who built a career spanning stage and silent film. She was married to attorney William S. Barnes and died in New York at age 80.
Delaro's stage career began in 1881 at Brooklyn's Grand Opera House, where she performed in a repertory of comic operas. Her Broadway career extended from 1884 to 1903 and included both musical productions and comic opera. In 1884, she took on the role of Melissa in the first authorized New York production of Gilbert and Sullivan's Princess Ida. The following year, she appeared in an 1885 production of The Mikado at Hollis Street Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1888, she performed in The Queen's Mate, and her Broadway credit The Pearl of Pekin followed in 1889. She returned to Broadway with Mam'selle 'Awkins in 1900 and Babes in Toyland in 1903.
Following her stage work, Delaro transitioned to silent film. She entered the medium in 1913 with the short film Love in an Apartment Hotel and continued working in film through the 1910s and 1920s.
