Harsh Nayyar is an actor born in New Delhi, India, whose career has spanned theatre, film, and television across several decades.

Nayyar's stage work began early. In April 1973, while still a student, he took the title role in a production of Dracula at Thompson Theatre in Raleigh, North Carolina. He went on to appear in numerous theatre productions over the following years. On March 28, 1979, he joined the original Broadway cast of A Meeting by the River, written by Christopher Isherwood and Don Bachardy, performing at the Palace Theatre in New York City in the role of a photographer. In 2002, he appeared at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in Tony Kushner's Journey of a Lifetime, portraying an Esperanto poet who guides the central character Priscilla through Kabul. Two years later, in 2004, Nayyar played Mr. Begg in Guantanamo: Honor Bound to Defend Freedom, a play by Victoria Brittain and Gillian Slovo, with productions at the Culture Project in New York City, the Studio Theatre in Washington, D.C., and the Brava Theatre Center in San Francisco. On February 27, 2018, he appeared off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop in An Ordinary Muslim, written by Hammaad Chaudry, playing a representative of the local Muslim community.

Nayyar gained wide recognition through his film work, most notably his portrayal of Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, in the 1982 film Gandhi. He subsequently appeared in the comedies Easy Money and Desperately Seeking Susan, both released in 1983. In 1987, he played project manager Dr. Ramdas in Making Mr. Right, and in 1997 he portrayed Dr. Aamir Taraki, a character who disassembles stolen warheads, in The Peacemaker. He played the news vendor in Men in Black and appeared in Hidalgo in 2004. In 2025, he appeared as Indian Prime Minister Kapur in Captain America: Brave New World.

Nayyar's television credits include the second season of Tales from the Darkside, in which he starred as Edmund Alcott, a vampire, in the episode The Unhappy Medium, which aired in 1986 and 1987. He played the character Vishant in the pilot episode and a 2019 episode of the American comedy series The Other Two, returning again in season three, episode nine, in 2023. In 2022, he appeared in the first episode of the Indian streaming series Cyber Vaar – Har Screen Crime Scene on the platform Voot.

In addition to his acting work, Nayyar narrated the audiobook of Between the Assassinations by Aravind Adiga. According to his own account, he was introduced to U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Dr. Martin Luther King in India in 1959.
