About

Harry Temple Morey (August 21, 1873 – January 24, 1936) was an American actor whose career spanned both the stage and motion pictures, encompassing nearly 200 film appearances over the course of his professional life. He was born in Charlotte, Michigan, and grew up with two brothers; their mother was Addie C. Morey.

Morey's introduction to acting came during his time at the University of Michigan, where early performing experience prompted him to pursue the craft professionally. He subsequently relocated to New York to build a career in acting. Among his earliest stage engagements was a performance at the Broadway Theatre with the Francis Wilson Opera Company in 1889, work that included both singing and dramatic roles. His Broadway credits include The Boys and Betty, in which he appeared in 1908.

In 1909, Morey joined the Vitagraph Film Company, becoming part of its original stock company of actors. His first substantial film role came in 1910, in the dramatic short Capital vs. Labor, directed by Van Dyke Brooke and featuring Maurice Costello and Earle Williams. Throughout the early 1910s, Morey worked alongside a number of prominent performers of the period, including John Bunny, Flora Finch, Julia Swayne Gordon, Florence Turner, Edith Storey, and William Shea.

Morey's final screen appearance came in 1934, in the comedy short Very Close Veins, directed by Ralph Staub and co-starring Ben Blue and Shemp Howard. He died on January 24, 1936, of a pulmonary abscess at St. John's Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, at the age of 63.
