About

Harry Joseph Manfredini, born August 25, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, is an American composer, multi-instrumentalist, jazz soloist, and Broadway book writer. The son of Italian American parents, he grew up in Chicago, where he began musical training at an early age, taking accordion lessons and studying both clarinet and saxophone. As a teenager, he performed in a local rock band. His formal education includes a Bachelor of Music degree from DePaul University, a Master of Arts degree from Western Illinois University, and a doctorate from Columbia University. He has accumulated years of classical training alongside two decades of experience in the popular music scene.

Manfredini's film scoring career began in the late 1970s with credits that include Through the Looking Glass (1976), Here Come the Tigers (1978), and Manny's Orphans (1978). He became widely recognized for composing the score to Friday the 13th (1980) and went on to score the majority of the franchise's sequels, among them Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981), Friday the 13th Part III (1982), Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985), Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986), Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993), and Jason X (2001). His work in the horror genre extends beyond that franchise to include The Children (1980), Swamp Thing (1982), House (1986), House II: The Second Story (1987), The Horror Show (1989), and House IV (1992). In total, Manfredini has scored more than one hundred films.

Beyond feature films, Manfredini composed music for the children's television adaptations Corduroy (1984) and A Pocket for Corduroy (1986). In 2017, he provided the score for Friday the 13th: The Game, a video game based on the Friday the 13th franchise. In February 2026, it was announced that Manfredini would contribute scoring to Crystal Lake, a forthcoming television series produced by A24 that serves as a prequel to the original Friday the 13th. Manfredini has cited composers Giacomo Puccini, Igor Stravinsky, and Maurice Ravel as influences on his musical tastes and style.

On Broadway, Manfredini's credits include serving as book writer for Play Me a Country Song.
