About

Harry Depp (February 22, 1883 – March 31, 1957) was an American stage and film actor, comedian, talent agent, and real estate investor born in St. Louis, Missouri to William Depp and Laura Freund. He began his professional career as a stage actor in New York City, appearing on Broadway between 1907 and 1913 in productions including the musical The Hoyden, the play The Lady, and the musical The Little Cafe. In 1911, he appeared in Klaw and Erlanger's The Pink Lady, a musical comedy with music by Ivan Caryll and a book by C.M.S. McLellan.

Depp subsequently transitioned to film, working initially with production companies on the East Coast before relocating to Hollywood. Between 1916 and 1947, he appeared in 195 films, working with studios including Universal Film Manufacturing Company, Victor Film Company, Triangle Film Corporation, Christie Film Company, and Warner Brothers. From 1916 to 1917, he worked under Mack Sennett, frequently taking supporting roles that involved the impersonation of female characters. He continued in a similar comedic vein at Universal. His screen work extended into the 1940s, including a small role as Catterson the Chemist in Leave Her to Heaven.

At some point during the 1920s, Depp suffered partial facial paralysis, which curtailed his acting career. He subsequently entered real estate sales, a profession recorded in the 1930 Federal Census. His transition into that field may have been facilitated by his association with Al Christie and Charles Christie, who operated a real estate company alongside their film production work.

In 1915, Depp married Nedra Belle Gilosky. The couple had one daughter, Evelyn Christine, born in 1928. Belle died in 1932. Depp married Helen William in 1950. He died on March 31, 1957.
