About

Harry Danner is an American operatic tenor and stage, screen, and television actor, raised in Springfield Township, Pennsylvania. He attended George School, graduating in 1957, and later studied at Dickinson College.

Danner's performing career began to take shape while he was stationed at Fort Myer, Virginia, where he played Lieutenant Cable in the American Light Opera Company's 1963 production of South Pacific at Trinity Theatre in Georgetown. His Broadway career spanned from 1964 to 1973, during which he appeared in Bajour and starred in The Student Prince. In 1967, he performed in four White House dinner concerts attended by President Lyndon B. Johnson.

His operatic career launched in 1970 with performances as Rodolfo in La bohème at both the New York City Opera and the Lake George Opera. The following year, he made his San Francisco Opera debut as the Duke of Mantua in Verdi's Rigoletto, with Robert Mosley in the title role. He returned to San Francisco on two subsequent occasions, portraying Curly in Carlisle Floyd's Of Mice and Men in 1974 and a soldier in the United States premiere of Viktor Ullmann's Der Kaiser von Atlantis in 1977. In 1972, he sang the role of Leutold in Rossini's William Tell with the Opera Orchestra of New York.

In 1973, Danner starred in the Kennedy Center's production of Sigmund Romberg's The Student Prince, continuing with the show when it moved to a national tour the following year. He portrayed Jolidon opposite Roberta Peters' Sonia in The Merry Widow at the Valley Forge Music Fair in 1977, and in 1979 took on the role of Prince Florian in the Opera Company of Philadelphia's production of John Philip Sousa's The Free Lance. His 1980 debut with the Opera Company of Boston cast him as Alfred in Die Fledermaus, and he returned there the next year as the Major Domo/Landlord in Der Rosenkavalier. He also went back to Lake George for the 1980–81 season to portray Sam Polk in Carlisle Floyd's Susannah.

Beyond the stage, Danner has appeared as a guest star on television programs including Ally McBeal, Chicago Hope, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, NYPD Blue, Scrubs, and Touched by an Angel, as well as in the films The Wedding Planner and Van Wilder.

Danner is the brother of actress Blythe Danner and violin maker William Moennig, and the uncle of actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and Katherine Moennig. He is married to opera director Dorothy Danner, née Frank, and is the father of Hillary Danner.
