About

Gypsy O'Brien (1889–1975) was an American actress whose career spanned both stage and screen during the early twentieth century. Born with titian hair that became part of her public image, O'Brien built a reputation across Broadway productions and silent film appearances spanning roughly a decade of active work.

Her stage career included appearances on Broadway between 1914 and 1926, with credits encompassing The Ghost Train, Beau Gallant, Easy Virtue, The Morning After, and Parasites, among other productions. She also appeared in Cheating Cheaters and performed in Bunny at the Hudson Theatre, where her portrayal of a persecuted heroine drew notice for its spirited quality.

O'Brien transitioned into film work beginning in 1916, making her screen debut in The Soul Market. That same year she appeared in The Scarlet Runner, a serial in which she starred alongside Earle Williams.
