About
Harry Guy Stockwell was born on November 16, 1933, in New York City, and died on February 6, 2002, from complications related to diabetes. He was the son of Harry Stockwell, a baritone singer and actor on Broadway who provided the singing voice of Prince Charming in Disney's animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Elizabeth "Betty" Margareta Veronica Stockwell, a singer and dancer. His younger brother was actor Dean Stockwell.
Stockwell launched his career on the stage, appearing in two Broadway productions between 1943 and 1944. He performed in the comedy The Innocent Voyage alongside his brother Dean, and in the comedy Chicken Every Sunday. His early work in theater later led him to become a co-founder of the Los Angeles Art Theater.
He subsequently built an extensive career in film and television, accumulating credits in nearly 30 films and approximately 250 television episodes. From 1961 to 1962, Stockwell held the recurring role of Chris Parker across twenty-six episodes of the ABC series Adventures in Paradise, which starred Gardner McKay as the skipper of a sailing vessel in the South Pacific. His television work also included appearances on Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Wagon Train, The Virginian, Combat!, Perry Mason, Mannix, Magnum P.I., Murder She Wrote, Columbo, Knight Rider, Simon and Simon, Quantum Leap — in which he appeared alongside his brother Dean — and numerous other series.
On the film side, Stockwell took on significant roles in several major productions. He co-starred with Charlton Heston in The War Lord, played the lead in Beau Geste, and appeared in The Plainsman, Blindfold, Tobruk, The Monitors, It's Alive, and Santa Sangre. He was married and divorced three times and had three children.
