About
Guy Middleton, born Guy Middleton Powell on 14 December 1907 in Hove, Sussex, England, was an English actor who worked in film, television, and theatre. He died on 30 July 1973 following a heart attack at the age of 65.
Before pursuing a career in acting, Middleton worked at the London Stock Exchange. He transitioned to acting in the 1930s, and his Broadway career included an appearance in 1937 in French Without Tears.
His film work spanned several decades and encompassed a range of character roles. Earlier in his career, Middleton frequently took on parts as amiable idiots, cads, scoundrels, and rakish bon vivants. As his career progressed, he moved toward roles portraying military officers in the British Army, the RAF, and the Royal Navy.
Middleton also appeared as a guest performer in a number of British television series. These included an appearance in Hancock's Half Hour in a 1957 episode titled "The Regimental Reunion," in which he played an ex-captain. That episode, part of series three, is among twenty-four missing Hancock television episodes. He also appeared in Dixon of Dock Green in 1959 as Fred Harper, and in a 1967 episode of Doctor Who titled "The Highlanders," in which he portrayed Colonel Attwood.
