About
Guy Boyd is an American actor born on April 15, 1943, in Du Quoin, Illinois, who was raised there and in Chicago. Over a career spanning from the late 1970s onward, he has accumulated more than 150 stage and screen credits. His Broadway work extended from 1981 to 2007 and included productions such as August: Osage County, Sex and Longing, and Rose. He began his professional life as a stage actor, working in both Off-Broadway and Broadway productions before expanding into film and television.
Boyd's film career gained early recognition with his 1981 appearance in Ticket to Heaven, for which he received a Genie Award nomination for Best Performance by a Foreign Actor. Two years later, his role as Rooney in Robert Altman's adaptation of David Rabe's play Streamers earned him the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the 40th Venice International Film Festival. Additional film work from that period included Ghost Story, Jagged Edge, and Body Double, in which he played Detective Jim McLean.
His television work has been equally extensive. He appeared as Frank Hackman in two episodes of Miami Vice and held the recurring role of Captain Henry Strickland on the superhero series Black Scorpion. He recurred on Law and Order between 2000 and 2005, and later portrayed Archbishop Kurtwell on the HBO drama The Young Pope. More recent screen appearances include The Report, in which he played Senator Saxby Chambliss, and the 2020 film I'm Thinking of Ending Things, where he appeared as the janitor. He also appeared in Foxcatcher and Certain Women, among numerous other productions.
Boyd was previously married to actress and dancer Sissy Boyd. They have two children together, including actor John Boyd.
