Greta Lee is an American actress born on March 7, 1983, in Los Angeles, California, to South Korean immigrant parents. She attended Harvard-Westlake School, where she developed an interest in the performing arts, before studying theater at Northwestern University. She subsequently relocated to New York City to pursue a professional acting career.

Lee made her television debut in 2006 in the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Taboo," playing a character named Heather Kim. Her Broadway career spans 2005 to 2010, with credits in two productions. In 2007, she joined the cast of the musical comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in the replacement role of Marcy Park, a high-achieving, multilingual honor student. She returned to Broadway in 2010 for the revival of David Hirson's comedic play La Bête at the Music Box Theatre, portraying Dorine alongside Mark Rylance, David Hyde Pierce, and Joanna Lumley. She subsequently reprised the role of Dorine in the West End production at the Harold Pinter Theatre. In 2011, she appeared in Amy Herzog's play 4000 Miles at Lincoln Center Theatre.

During the 2010s, Lee accumulated a range of recurring television roles. She played Heidi in the HBO comedy-drama series High Maintenance from 2012 to 2018, appeared as a nurse in Showtime's Nurse Jackie from 2012 to 2013, and portrayed Soojin in Lena Dunham's HBO series Girls from 2013 to 2014. She also took on roles in The Good Fight, Wayward Pines, and the Hulu series Chance. Her film work during this period included Hae Won in the 2015 comedy Sisters, alongside Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, and Amy Lee in the drama Money Monster, starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts. She voiced Lyla in a post-credits scene of the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, a role she reprised in the 2023 sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Lee gained broader recognition through two prominent streaming series. She starred as Maxine in the Netflix comedy-drama Russian Doll, which ran from 2019 to 2022, and as Stella Bak in the Apple TV+ drama The Morning Show from 2021 to 2025. Her performance in The Morning Show earned her a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, as well as two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series alongside the cast. She also appeared in the Fox animated sitcom HouseBroken from 2021 to 2023, voicing Bubbles and various other roles.

Lee received significant critical attention for her starring role in the 2023 Celine Song–directed romantic drama Past Lives, in which she played Nora, a woman who reconnects with a childhood friend from South Korea. The performance earned her the Hollywood Critics Association Midseason Film Award for Best Actress, along with nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, the Critics' Choice Movie Award for Best Actress, and the Independent Spirit Award for Best Lead Performance. Her additional film credits include Problemista (2023), Tron: Ares (2025), Late Fame (2025), and A House of Dynamite (2025). Lee is married to actor and writer Russ Armstrong, and the couple has two sons.
