Gregg Edelman is an American actor born on September 12, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Niles North High School, where he appeared in a production of Li'l Abner alongside future soap actress Nancy Lee Grahn, and went on to train at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. His professional career began in 1979 with a touring production of Evita, and his Broadway work spans from 1980 to 2024.

Edelman first drew significant attention on Broadway for his portrayal of Cliff in the 1987 revival of Cabaret. He subsequently appeared in Anything Goes in 1989 and earned a Tony Award nomination for his work in City of Angels in 1990. Additional Tony nominations followed for Anna Karenina in 1993, 1776 in 1998, and the first Broadway revival of Into the Woods in 2002, in which he played the Wolf and Cinderella's Prince. His performance in 1776 also brought him the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical. Among his other Broadway credits are Falsettos, Passion, Les Misérables, Oliver Oliver, Wonderful Town, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and Water for Elephants.

Edelman made his film debut in The Manhattan Project in 1989 and that same year appeared in Crimes and Misdemeanors. His subsequent film work includes Spider-Man 2, Little Children, The Proposal, and She Said. On television, he has taken recurring roles in the NBC police procedural Shades of Blue, the Netflix political drama House of Cards, and the USA Network series The Sinner.

In his personal life, Edelman was married to actress Carolee Carmello from 1995 to 2015. The two first met during the run of City of Angels. They have a daughter, Zoe, and a son, Ethan. Academy Award-winning actor J.K. Simmons has publicly credited Edelman with providing support during his early years as a struggling actor.
