About
Greg Antonacci (February 2, 1947 – September 20, 2017) was an American actor, playwright, director, producer, and writer born in New York City. He attended Power Memorial Academy in Manhattan before enrolling at Queens College, where he was first introduced to theater.
Antonacci began his theatrical career in the early 1970s at the La MaMa Experimental Theater Club in the East Village, where he participated in multiple productions throughout that decade. In 1971, he wrote and performed in the Off-Off-Broadway musical Dance Wi' Me (or, The Fatal Twitch), directed by Joel Zwick and produced at La MaMa. The piece was revived at La MaMa in 1974 before being retitled and restaged as the Broadway musical Dance With Me, which opened on January 23, 1975, at the Mayfair Theatre in New York City. His Broadway work also included Two Gentlemen of Verona, with his stage credits spanning 1973 to 1975.
On television, Antonacci took on recurring roles across several decades. He played Vinnie Morabito on Busting Loose and Tony Manucci on Makin' It, and appeared in a guest capacity on The Rockford Files. In 1976, he portrayed Hector in the Laverne & Shirley season two episodes "A Nun's Story" and "Good Time Girls." He later appeared as Phil Leotardo's associate Butch DeConcini on The Sopranos from 2006 through the series finale in 2007, and went on to portray Johnny Torrio in all seasons of Boardwalk Empire from 2010 to 2014. He also made a cameo as a mobster in the 2013 film The Family.
Behind the camera, Antonacci worked as a director, producer, and writer on numerous television series, including Soap, It's a Living, Herman's Head, Perfect Strangers, Brothers, Busting Loose, The Tortellis, The Royal Family, The John Larroquette Show, and other productions. Antonacci died on September 20, 2017, in Massapequa, New York, at the age of 70.
