About
At age 13, he played Curly in Peter Pan at the Palladium. He went on to appear in several Coward works — Words and Music, Sigh No More, After the Ball — along with the West End musicals Pacific 1860 and Ace of Clubs. During the 1960s, he assistant directed the New York and London productions of High Spirits and many other Coward pieces. Following Coward's death in 1973, Mr. Payn co-wrote "Noel Coward and His Friends," co-edited "The Noel Coward Diaries," and managed Coward's estate from Switzerland.
