Gordon Sackville

Gordon Sackville (1880–1926) was a Canadian-born actor who worked in both stage and film during the early decades of the twentieth century. He was born in Peterborough, Ontario, and built a career that spanned theatrical performance and a prolific run in silent cinema before his death from a stroke on August 6, 1926.

Sackville's early career included work on the stage, and in 1910 he appeared on Broadway in The International Cup, the Ballet of Niagara, and the Earthquake. His transition to film followed shortly after, and he became associated with productions connected to actor and director Hobart Bosworth. Among his earliest screen appearances was The Best Man Wins (1911), considered one of the first Hollywood films.

Throughout the 1910s, Sackville accumulated a substantial list of film credits. He appeared in The Sea Wolf (1913), The Squaw Man (1914), and An Odyssey of the North (1914), along with several other features and serials from that period, including The Red Circle (1915) and Pay Dirt (1916). His work continued steadily into the following decade, with roles in With Stanley in Africa (1922), Around the World in Eighteen Days (1923), and The Texas Terror (1925). His final screen credit was Lightning Hutch in 1926, the same year he died.
