About
Gordon Ramsey (June 19, 1930 – November 5, 1993) was an American actor and singer born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He relocated to New York City in 1958, where he would build a career spanning stage, television, and voice work.
Ramsey's professional acting career began Off-Broadway with the musical The Man Who Never Died, which marked his New York stage debut following his move to the city. His Broadway career included the 1979 musical Carmelina, for which he also contributed to the original cast recording. Beyond the stage, Ramsey performed as Bozo the Clown on a local children's television program and provided character voices for the animated series Star Blazers. In 1969, he appeared on the television panel show What's My Line? twice within the same episode — first as a Mystery Guest in his Bozo the Clown persona, and then as himself, with celebrity panelist Phyllis Newman successfully identifying his occupation.
Ramsey was married to Barbara Ramsey, née Brown, with whom he had three children. He died on November 5, 1993, at his home in Grymes Hill, Staten Island, of cancer, at the age of 63.
