About

Gordon Dooley (August 13, 1898 – January 23, 1930) was an American vaudeville comedian and eccentric dancer who also appeared on Broadway between 1917 and 1928.

Dooley was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to Robert Roger Dooley, originally surnamed Dool, a circus performer who had emigrated from Scotland along with his wife, Mary. Performance ran throughout the family: his brothers William (1882–1921) and Johnny (1887–1928), as well as his sister Ray, were all performers.

His Broadway career spanned more than a decade and included appearances in a range of productions. Among his credits were the revue George White's Scandals in 1922, the revue Earl Carroll's Vanities in 1925, the musical Honeymoon Lane, the play Monte Cristo, and Words & Music.

In May 1929, Dooley suffered a nervous breakdown. He died of pneumonia the following year in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the age of 31, and was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, Pennsylvania.
