Gloria Jane Stroock (July 10, 1924 – May 5, 2024) was an American actress whose career spanned Broadway, film, and television across several decades. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of James Stroock, president of Brooks Costume and Uniform Company, and the elder sister of actress Geraldine Brooks.
Stroock's Broadway career ran from 1945 to 1949 and encompassed four productions. In 1945 she played Joan Massuber in Oh, Brother and took on the role of Meg in Little Women. The following year she appeared in Truckline Cafe, and in 1949 she portrayed Polly Dalton in Cayden.
Her television work began in 1950, when she portrayed Cornelia Otis Skinner in the CBS situation comedy The Girls. That same year she co-starred in the November 7, 1950, episode of Armstrong Circle Theatre, titled "Person to Person." She went on to appear as a guest in series including Martin Kane, Private Eye, Baretta, Archie Bunker's Place, and Operation Petticoat. Among her more sustained television roles was that of Maggie, the secretary to lead character Stewart McMillan, in the series McMillan & Wife. Her film credits included supporting roles in The Day of the Locust and The Competition.
On August 12, 1956, Stroock married Leonard B. Stern. The couple had two children, Kate and Michael, and remained married until Stern's death in 2011. Stroock died on May 5, 2024, at her son's home in Tucson, Arizona, at the age of 99.
