Gloria Mann

Gloria Mann was an American performer and pop singer born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her career spanned both the Broadway stage and the recording industry, with notable achievements in each field.

Mann appeared on Broadway between 1935 and 1944, taking part in productions that included the comedy All in Favor, the comedy Right Next to Broadway, and the play The Old Maid.

Her recording career brought her to national attention in 1955, when she placed two singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. A cover version of "Earth Angel," released on Sound Records, climbed to number 18. Later that same year, "A Teenage Prayer," also on Sound Records and featuring Sid Bass conducting the backing orchestra, reached number 19. Mann was subsequently signed to Decca Records, where she recorded a cover of "Why Do Fools Fall in Love," released as Decca 29832. That single entered the Billboard Hot 100 on March 10, 1956, peaking at position 59.

In 2003, a compilation of her recordings was issued under the title Don't Call Me Barry: The Best of Gloria Mann.

Mann married and had two sons. The family moved from Philadelphia to Miami. One of her sons, Bob Rosenberg, went on to found the pop music group Will to Power. Mann died in December 2001.
