About
Glenn Langan (July 8, 1917 – January 26, 1991) was an American actor who worked across stage, film, radio, and television. Born in Denver, Colorado, to Thomas Langan and Kate Quinn Langan, he received his earliest theatrical training in his hometown, where he served as stage manager at Elitch's Gardens.
Langan relocated to New York in pursuit of an acting career, supporting himself by washing dishes in a cafeteria and taking other odd jobs while making the rounds of producers' offices. The financial strain of this period was severe enough that he collapsed on the street and was admitted to Polyclinic Hospital for treatment of malnutrition. He persisted, and his Broadway career spanned from 1940 to 1952. His debut came in Glamour Preferred in 1940, followed by the comedy A Kiss for Cinderella in 1942. He later starred in Fancy Meeting You Again in 1952.
Langan's film work began with a credited appearance in The Return of Doctor X in 1939. He went on to take supporting roles in several notable Hollywood productions of the 1940s, playing a French professor in Margie (1946), a young doctor opposite Gene Tierney and Vincent Price in Dragonwyck (1946), a privateer captain in Forever Amber (1947), and one of the psychiatrists attending Olivia de Havilland's character in The Snake Pit (1948).
On radio, Langan starred as police inspector Barton Drake in the Mutual crime drama Murder Is My Hobby, a role he reprised in a revised syndicated version titled Mystery Is My Hobby. His television work included the role of Jeff Standish on the comedy series Boss Lady in 1952, and on November 20, 1950, he co-starred with Mabel Taliaferro in the Studio One episode "The Floor of Heaven."
Langan was married twice, first to showgirl Helen Weston and later to actress Adele Jergens, with whom he had a son, Tracy. He died of lymphoma on January 26, 1991, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo, California, at the age of 73.
