About

Glenn Cannon (November 21, 1932 – April 20, 2013) was an American actor and educator born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He built a career spanning stage, television, and academia, becoming particularly recognized for recurring roles in long-running television series and for his contributions to theater education in Hawaii.

Cannon's Broadway work took place between 1956 and 1957, during which he appeared in two productions: the drama A Moon for the Misbegotten and the play The Good Woman of Setzuan. His stage career coincided with the early years of a broader professional trajectory that extended into television work beginning in the 1950s, with appearances on Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Outer Limits, and Combat!

On television, Cannon accumulated substantial recurring credits over several decades. He appeared in 33 episodes of Hawaii Five-O between 1970 and 1977, portraying Attorney General John Manicote from 1972 to 1977 as well as several other characters in earlier seasons. On Magnum, P.I., he was featured across 14 episodes between 1981 and 1988, playing Dr. Ibold and Dr. Bernard Kessler. He also appeared on Lost in two separate roles. His film credits include Cop Hater (1958), Mad Dog Coll (1961), and Picture Bride (1994).

Alongside his performing career, Cannon pursued work in education. In the mid-1960s he taught elementary school at Lanai Road School in Encino, California. In 1968 he joined the faculty of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa as a professor of theatre and served as co-director of the university's Cinematic and Digital Arts program. He also served as president of the Hawaii chapter of the Screen Actors Guild and its successor organization, SAG-AFTRA. Cannon died on April 20, 2013, in Honolulu, Hawaii.
