Gladys Hanson

Gladys Hanson, born Gladys Hanson Snook on September 5, 1884, was a stage and silent film actress whose Broadway career spanned from 1908 to 1939. The youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peyton Harrison Snook, she built a substantial presence in American theater and early cinema over several decades.

Hanson's stage career began in 1907 when she portrayed the Duchess in The Spoiler with the Charles Frohman Company. Her Broadway work in the following years brought her into productions alongside notable figures of the era, including a 1908 staging of Our American Cousin with Edward Hugh Sothern and The Builder of Bridges in 1909, which featured Eugene O'Brien. In 1912 she appeared in The Governor's Lady alongside Emma Dunn and Milton Sills. Her Broadway credits also included Give Me Yesterday, Brown Danube, and Evensong, among additional productions.

Hanson's work extended into silent film, where she appeared in several productions for different studios. Her film credits included The Straight Road for Famous Players, The Evangelist and The Climbers for Lubin, The Primrose Path for Universal, and The Havoc for Essanay.

On April 12, 1916, Hanson married Charles Emerson Cook in Atlanta; Cook represented her through Charles Emerson Cook Inc. The marriage later ended in divorce. The couple had one child, Gladys-Irene Cook.

Hanson died on February 23, 1973, at the age of 89.
