About
Gladys Boot (28 March 1890 – 16 October 1964) was a British actress whose career spanned stage and screen across several decades. She received her acting training privately under Elsie Fogerty before making her stage debut in Newcastle in 1940 in Quiet Wedding.
The following year, Boot appeared in London at Wyndham's Theatre in Quiet Weekend, a production in which she accumulated over 1,000 performances, including overseas tours and performances for the forces between 1943 and 1944. Following the war, she took on the role of leading lady with the Liverpool Playhouse and continued to build her stage career through touring work.
Boot made her Broadway appearance in 1949 in Yes, M'Lord, a production she had also performed on tour. In 1951, she returned to touring work, playing Mrs. Higgins in George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion.
Her film work included Murder Reported (1957), in which she played Dorothy, followed by Harry Black (1958) as Mrs. Tanner and Virgin Island (1958) as Mrs. Carruthers. She also appeared in Your Money or Your Wife (1960) as Mrs. Compton Chamberlain.
Boot died on 16 October 1964, in Chelsea, London.
