About

Gilbert L. Lamb was born on June 14, 1904, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Lamb. He attended East High School and the University of Minnesota before embarking on a career in entertainment that would span several decades across vaudeville, stage, film, and television.

Lamb's professional beginnings were in vaudeville, where his act featured a collection of trick props. He subsequently developed a harmonica act that he performed throughout the United States and across most of Europe prior to World War II. He also appeared at The Muny in St. Louis in 1935 and 1936, early in his stage career.

His Broadway career extended from 1939 to 1971 and included five productions. He appeared in Folies Bergère in 1939, followed by Hold on to Your Hats, which ran from 1940 to 1941. Lamb returned to Broadway in 1948 with Sleepy Hollow, and later appeared in Folies Bergère again in 1964 and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. His final Broadway credit was 70, Girls, 70 in 1971. Beyond the stage, Lamb appeared in more than 60 films and television productions between 1935 and 1980, with his credits including Hit Parade of 1947.

Outside of performing, Lamb owned a restaurant in New York and held a partial ownership stake in a New York company that manufactured theatrical props. He died on November 2, 1995, in Riverside, California, at the age of 91.
