About
Ghislaine Thesmar is a French retired ballet dancer and choreographer, born in 1943 in Beijing, China. Her career spanned decades of distinguished work in classical ballet, culminating in recognition at the highest levels of the art form.
Thesmar rose to prominence as an Étoile, or principal dancer, with the Paris Opera Ballet, a position she held from 1972 to 1985. Her association with the Boston Ballet Company further extended her presence across the international dance world. In 1980, she brought her artistry to Broadway, marking her appearance on the American stage.
Her personal life was closely intertwined with the French ballet world. In 1968, she married Pierre Lacotte, himself a noted French ballet dancer and choreographer. The two remained together until Lacotte's death in 2023.
