About
Gerald Hiken (May 27, 1927 – January 6, 2021) was an American actor born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, whose Broadway career spanned from 1956 to 1981. He trained at HB Studio in New York City before establishing himself as a stage performer across more than two decades of theatrical work.
Hiken's most celebrated Broadway role came in Strider, for which he received both a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Play and a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Play, both in 1980. His additional Broadway credits include Fools, Golda, and The Three Sisters, among other productions.
Beyond the stage, Hiken appeared in supporting and smaller roles in several films, including The Candidate (1972), Reds (1981), and Fat Man and Little Boy (1989). On television, he was a recurring guest on Car 54, Where Are You?, a series created by his cousin Nat Hiken. In 1988, he appeared in two consecutive episodes of Cheers during the show's seventh season, playing Dennis, the father of executive Martin Teale, in the episodes "Executive Sweet" and "One Happy Chappy in a Snappy Serape."
Hiken died on January 6, 2021, at the age of 93.
