About

Georges Groulx (June 26, 1922 – February 9, 1997) was a Canadian actor born in Montreal, Quebec. He completed his classical studies at the Cégep de Saint-Laurent, where he developed an early interest in theater. His talent was recognized by Father Émile Legault, a theatrical animator who had founded the company Compagnons de Saint-Laurent in 1937. At the invitation of Father Legault and his sister Marguerite, who was the first actress to join the company, Groulx became a member in 1939.

His early work with the Compagnons de Saint-Laurent began with behind-the-scenes responsibilities, including work as a scenic painter, before he moved into performing roles. Among the productions he appeared in was La Mort à cheval (1941), a religious play by Henri Ghéon that was part of the company's repertory. After completing his classical studies in 1941, Groulx pursued further education, studying at the École du meuble de Montréal in 1941 and at the Université de Montréal in 1942, where he graduated in 1943.

Groulx brought his stage work to Broadway in 1958, appearing in Le Mariage Forcé and the comedy Le Malade Imaginaire. His screen career spanned several decades and included appearances in the films 14, rue de Galais (1954), Opération-mystère (1957), and Le Courrier du roy (1958). He continued working in film and television through subsequent decades, with credits including Les Enquêtes Jobidon (1962), Le Temps des lilas (1962), Les Martin (1968), Two Women in Gold (1970), Au retour des oies blanches (1971), and Duplessis (1977). Groulx died on February 9, 1997, in Montreal.
