About

George Thomas Regas (November 9, 1890 – December 13, 1940) was a Greek American actor whose career spanned stage and screen across multiple decades. Born near Sparta, Greece, he was the brother of fellow actor Pedro Regas. Before emigrating to the United States, Regas worked as a stage actor in Athens. After arriving in New York City, he performed in a Grecian production of Romeo and Juliet, taking on the role of Romeo.

Regas made his film debut in 1921 in The Love Light, a production from Mary Pickford's production company in which Pickford herself starred. Over the course of his screen career, he built a body of work exceeding one hundred films, consistently taking on character roles. Among his notable screen appearances was the role of Mateo in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes in 1939.

On Broadway, Regas appeared in the 1932 play Zombie, in which he portrayed the character Pedro. Outside of his professional life, he was married to actress Reine Davies, who was the sister of Marion Davies.

Regas died on December 13, 1940, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Hollywood, California, following an operation for a throat infection. He was fifty years old at the time of his death.
