George Randol was an American actor, screenwriter, director, and producer born in Buena Vista, Virginia, in 1895. His career spanned both stage and screen, and he remained active in the entertainment industry until his death in 1973.
Randol's Broadway career extended from 1926 to 1944 and encompassed a range of productions. His stage credits include the musical Bamboola, the play Magnolia, The Green Pastures, Porgy and Bess, and Anna Lucasta.
On screen, Randol took on acting roles in several films, including The Exile, in which he played Bill Prescott, and Harlem on the Prairie, where he appeared as a sheriff. He also appeared in the 1936 film adaptation of The Green Pastures as the High Priest.
Beyond performing, Randol pursued work behind the camera as a producer and director. He served as executive producer on Dark Manhattan in 1937, which was the sole release of the Cooper-Randol Production Company, a short-lived Los Angeles venture he co-founded. He subsequently entered into another producing partnership, with credits including Double Deal and Midnight Shadow, both from 1939. He also directed Midnight Shadow. In 1938, a newspaper profile of the American film industry recognized Randol as an influential figure within Black cinema.
