George Donald MacQuarrie was born on June 2, 1873, in San Francisco, California. An American actor whose career spanned both stage and screen, MacQuarrie worked across multiple decades and accumulated credits in more than 80 films between 1916 and 1951. He was the brother of actors Murdock MacQuarrie, Frank MacQuarrie, and Albert MacQuarrie, and was married to actress Helen MacKellar, who lived from 1895 to 1966.
MacQuarrie established a presence on Broadway that lasted from 1916 to 1932, appearing in a range of productions during that period. His stage credits included the plays Air Minded, Enemy Within, First Night, Through the Night, and Rebound, among others.
Primarily associated with the silent era of cinema, MacQuarrie built a substantial body of film work alongside his theatrical career. He continued to work in film through 1951, the same year he died, at the age of 77.
