George C. Pearce (June 26, 1865 – August 13, 1940) was an American actor whose career spanned both the stage and screen. Born in New York, New York, he built a professional life that encompassed Broadway performances, regional theater work, and an extensive body of silent and early sound film work. He was also known professionally as George C. Pierce.
Pearce's Broadway career ran from 1899 to 1912 and included a range of productions across that period. His earliest verified credit was Lord and Lady Algy in 1899, followed by Brother Officers in 1900. In 1901 he appeared in both D'Arcy of the Guards and Manon Lescaut. Later stage work brought him to The Mimic World in 1908 and Billy in 1909, with The Rainbow in 1912 rounding out his documented Broadway appearances. He was also associated with The Tell-Tale Heart during his time on the New York stage.
Beyond Broadway, Pearce continued performing in theater into the late 1920s. In 1927 he appeared in a Los Angeles production of White Cargo, in which he portrayed a doctor.
His film career began in 1914 and proved remarkably prolific. Over the course of roughly 25 years, Pearce appeared in more than 130 films, working primarily during the silent era and continuing into the sound period through 1939. During his years in the industry he became a member of the Players Club in New York City.
Pearce died on August 13, 1940, at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Los Angeles following a two-week illness. He was 75 years old.
