About

George Barraud was a British actor born on 17 December 1889 in Paddington, London, England. He built a career that spanned both stage and screen across multiple decades, working in the United States and the United Kingdom before his death in London in January 1970.

Barraud established a presence on Broadway between 1921 and 1927, appearing in three productions during that period. His stage credits included The Fanatics, Bulldog Drummond, and The Awful Truth, the last of which was a play before its later adaptation as a well-known film property.

Alongside his theatrical work, Barraud pursued a film career beginning in the silent era. He appeared in Little Old New York and Flaming Youth, both released in 1923, followed by The Wolf Man in 1924. As the industry transitioned to sound, he continued working steadily, with credits including Ned McCobb's Daughter and Tropic Madness in 1928, The Bellamy Trial, The Last of Mrs. Cheyney, and Woman to Woman in 1929, and Peacock Alley in 1930.

Through the 1930s Barraud remained active primarily in British productions. His credits from that decade include The Happy Ending, The Return of Raffles, Women Who Play, After Dark, Great Expectations, Charlie Chan in London, Mystery Woman, Accused, Two on a Doorstep, Show Flat, Talk of the Devil, and Stolen Life, the last of which was released in 1939. Among his films, Tropic Madness was long considered lost until a single surviving reel was discovered in 2022 and subsequently made available on YouTube.
