About

Geoffrey Cecil Burridge (4 December 1948 – 30 September 1987) was an English actor born in London, England, whose career spanned theatre, television, and film. He is remembered for work across multiple decades in both British and American productions before his death in London in 1987.

Burridge made his Broadway appearance in 1974 in As You Like It. His stage work extended well beyond Broadway, encompassing a range of West End productions. In 1972 he took part in the West End revue Cowardy Custard, and in 1978 he appeared in Beyond the Rainbow in the West End. His theatre credits also included the 1985 West End revival of Gigi.

On British television, Burridge was seen in early episodes of Emmerdale Farm, playing the character Mark Proctor. He made a guest appearance in the series 1990, portraying American chess champion Cyrus Asher in the episode "You'll Never Walk Alone," and appeared in the 1978 BBC television drama The Ice House, written by Derek Lister, in the role of Clovis. He is also recognized for his guest role in Blake's 7, playing Dorian in the episode "Rescue." In film, Burridge appeared in John Landis's 1981 production An American Werewolf in London, in the role of an undead murdered man in the sex cinema scene.

Burridge died in London in 1987. His partner at the time of his death was the actor Alec McCowen, who threatened to withhold broadcast permission for Burridge's This Is Your Life episode unless their relationship was acknowledged; an acknowledgment was subsequently added as a voice-over at the end of the program.
