About
Genevieve Angelson is an American actress born in New York City to Mark Angelson, a lawyer and businessman, and his wife Lynn. She has two older sisters, Jessica and Meredith. Angelson attended The Brearley School in Manhattan before earning her undergraduate degree, Phi Beta Kappa, from Wesleyan University. She subsequently completed a master's degree through the Graduate Acting Program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
Angelson made her Broadway debut in 2013, originating the role of Nina in Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, a production that went on to win the Tony Award for Best Play at the 67th Tony Awards. Her stage work extends beyond Broadway to include off-Broadway productions such as The Cake by Bekah Brunstetter at Manhattan Theatre Club and the world premiere of Joe DiPietro's Babbitt at the La Jolla Playhouse.
Her television career began in September 2013 when she joined the Showtime series House of Lies as Caitlin Hobart. The following year, she replaced Mamie Gummer in the role of Detective Nicole Gravely on Backstrom, a performance that earned her recognition from Deadline Hollywood as one of the best casting discoveries of the year. In 2016, she starred as Patti Robinson in the Amazon Video original series Good Girls Revolt, which was cancelled after one season. Variety named Angelson one of the Top Ten TV Stars to Watch during this period.
In 2019, she joined the cast of Flack alongside Anna Paquin, playing the role of Ruth, and also appeared in the second season of the DC Comics series Titans. That December, she recurred on two primetime NBC dramas simultaneously, appearing on both This Is Us and New Amsterdam. She went on to play Indigo in The Afterparty on Apple TV+, a series created by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and portrays Alanis Wheeler on The Handmaid's Tale. She also leads the cast of The Chicken Sisters, adapted from the novel by KJ Dell'Antonia, as the character Mae. Her film credits include The Upside, the American remake of the French film The Intouchables.
In addition to her acting work, Angelson is a published writer whose work has appeared in Town & Country, Refinery29, and Elle.
