Gavriel Savit is an American actor, singer, and writer who grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theater from the University of Michigan, and his performing career has taken him across three continents.
On Broadway, Savit appeared in Amazing Grace in 2015. His work as a performer extends beyond the stage to encompass a career as a published author of fiction for young readers.
Savit's debut novel, Anna and the Swallow Man, was published by Knopf on January 26, 2016. The book earned a starred review from Booklist and received the American Bookseller Association's Young Adult Book of the Year award for 2016. In 2017, it was recognized with the Odyssey Award for Excellence in Audiobook Production, the Sydney Taylor Book Award for Teen Readers, and placement on the American Library Association's Top Ten Amazing Audiobooks for Young Adults.
His second novel, The Way Back, was published on November 17, 2020, by Knopf Books for Young Readers. The book received starred reviews from both Kirkus Reviews and Booklist. It was named a National Book Award Finalist for Young People's Literature in 2020, appeared on Kirkus Reviews' Best Books of 2020 list, and won the National Jewish Book Award in 2021.
