About
Gail Dahms is a Canadian actress and singer born on June 27, 1957, in Kitchener, Ontario. During her teenage years, she performed in local musical theatre productions of South Pacific, Annie Get Your Gun, Guys and Dolls, and Fiddler on the Roof.
Shortly after completing high school, Dahms secured a recording contract and released several singles in 1975 and 1976, among them "Can't We Somehow," "Rescue Me," and "This Song Reminds Me of You." That same period brought her widespread recognition through a series of television commercials for Turtles candy, in which she portrayed a Marilyn Monroe-style character and performed the jingle "Ooooh, I love Turtles" alongside a pair of turtle mascots. Her work on those commercials earned her a Juno Award nomination for Most Promising Female Vocalist at the 1977 ceremony.
Dahms did not pursue further recording work but remained active as a performer in other mediums. Her stage credits included the musical Eight to the Bar and the stage play The Guys in the Truck. On television, she held a recurring role as a nightclub singer in the series Flappers. She also appeared in supporting roles in the films The Silent Partner, Stone Cold Dead, and The Man in 5A.
In 1983, Dahms joined the production of Sugar Babies, opening in Toronto before the show moved to Broadway in 1984, where she made her Broadway debut, and subsequently to Boston. Following her run in the production, she announced plans to relocate to the United States to pursue work in Hollywood.
Dahms later married American musician Jon Bonine. She received a behind-the-scenes credit as a voice coach on the 1994 children's film The Little Rascals. After the 1994 Northridge earthquake, she and Bonine relocated to Boise, Idaho, where she worked in music ministry for her church and performed in Bonine's swing jazz ensemble.
